Virgin Voyages' guide to Oranjestad, Aruba
From snorkeling shipwrecks to sipping them on white sand beaches.
One Happy Island
There’s a reason the motto “one happy island” has been coined by the Aruban locals in Oranjestad. Surrounded by arguably the most beautiful waters in the world, there is no shortage of exciting adventures to be had in the bustling capital city of Aruba. With endless opportunities to snorkel, from shipwrecks to plane wrecks to beautifully vibrant coral reefs, off-roading adventures, horseback riding and cocktails on a sunset catamaran there’s truly something for everyone here.
So bring a pair of hiking boots and your favorite pair of dancing shoes, because once you’re out and about in Oranjestad you’re definitely going to want to stay out as long as you possibly can.
Shore Excursions
Oranj’ you glad we’re here until midnight?
Submarine Aquaventure
Become an aquanaut without any formal training (search engine school is fine) by heading into the depths of the ocean on a submarine. This 50-minute submergence will provide a fish-eye view of the world beneath the waves. You'll see tropical fish, lobsters, eels, a variety of coral species, huge sponge gardens, and other sunken treasures of the deep through extra-large portholes.
Hike The Hooiberg
Outdoor enthusiasts and those looking to stay active will thrive on this exhilarating hike up the Hooiberg. With a guide leading the way, you'll learn about the island's history during your ascent while also getting acquainted with the native species, succulents, and wildflowers that sprinkle the trail. Just below the peak, you'll head up 586 stairs — and it's well worth it — as the view at the top is spectacular. As the highest point in Aruba, the hike is extremely rewarding.
Champagne & Lobster Catamaran Extravaganza
Soak up the idyllic views of Aruba's mangrove-covered cays aboard a custom-built catamaran with lots of space to relax your mind and indulge your palate. You'll sail to the Spanish Lagoon — a natural lagoon outlined by reefs, mangroves, and tiny islets — and gear up to snorkel along the Mangel Halto Barrier Reef. Swim with the fish, check out the vibrant coral, grab a floaty, and treat yourself to the open bar, plus a delicious lunch of fresh lobster paired with champagne and hues of blue.
